Aftercare: Adhesive Bandage at Gold Sparrow Tattoo

Tattoo aftercare instructions for a medical-grade adhesive bandage called “second skin”  (Dermalize, Saniderm, SecondSkin, 2ndSkin, Tegaderm, etc.). This transparent film is designed to last several days and acts as a protective barrier over the tattoo, shielding it from external contaminants while allowing it to breathe. The bandage is left on for 2-3 days before removing to clean the new tattoo.

Aftercare Instructions:
Adhesive Bandage

  1. Leave bandage on for two to three days

  2. Remove bandage in shower with warm water

  3. Wash tattoo with your clean hands using unscented and dye-free soap 

    • Continue until it is not greasy or slimy feeling

  4. Pat dry with clean paper towel, but do not rub the tattoo

  5. Apply a small amount of unscented and dye-free lotion or ointment as needed

    • Continue to use a thin layer lotion or ointment one to three times per day

  6. Repeat steps 3-5 twice a day for two to three days

  • Do not use a washcloth, loofah, or abrasive rag

  • Do not itch, pick, rub, or scratch the tattoo

  • Do not shave the area while your tattoo heals

  • Avoid direct sun exposure

  • Avoid strenuous activities or workouts

  • Avoid wearing tight and restricted clothing

  • Do not apply Neosporin, Vaseline, Bactine, or any other medicated/fragrance petroleum products

  • Do not submerge the tattoo in water (bath, hot tub, pool, sauna, salt tank, lake, river)

    •  You must wait until the tattoo is fully healed around three weeks before you can enter a body of water
